About Us
This award-winning store was established by Catherine Eddie, with a simple vision of bringing natural health and wellbeing to the people of Aberdeen. In 1999, Catherine opened the doors to Grampian Health Foods in Crown Street, Aberdeen. She quickly grew a loyal customer base and found a lot of her fellow Aberdonians were very interested in eating healthier, organic and less processed foods in order to either treat an existing illness or as a preventative measure against becoming ill. Some, like herself, were lifelong vegetarians or vegans, some suffered from coeliac disease and needed to buy from Catherine's expanding 'free from' range. Almost all wanted to support local shopkeepers and keep the city centre alive with independent retailers at the heart.
Grampian Health Foods expanded quickly and changed its name to Grampian Health Store because we were stocking an increasing number of non-food lines. Word of mouth recommendations from happy customers meant more and more people came for personalised advice on VMS (vitamins, minerals & supplements) or to buy paraben-free body care products. In 2008, it was recognised that more space was needed! We changed premises to a larger location on Market Street.
We continue to sell a huge range of VMS; organic cosmetics; cruelty-free body care; chilled and frozen vegan foods and drinks; 'free from' chocolates, biscuits, bread, flour, baking products, pre-packed nuts, fruits, seeds & pulses. Additionally, we still offer an Ecover refill service for cleaning products - saving you money whilst also cutting down on unnecessary waste.
Our online store has been live for many years now and over those years we've continued to add product ranges to allow you to have your products delivered to your home or office. We strive to deliver the same excellent level of service online that we provide instore and welcome any questions or feedback.
Since COVID-19, we've had to adapt and expand quickly. As an essential service, we had to adjust to covid secure methods within days. Staff had to be trained and qualified on covid hygiene measures to keep safety as the priority.
As lockdown measures have continued, our online store has taken on new life. We've adapted our online store to have our live stock levels displayed - meaning you can be confident when placing your order that you will get what you've ordered.
We've been adapting delivery methods as more and more people required foods to be delivered - we're not able yet to deliver chilled and frozen foods via any courier service so for the moment, these remain available for local home delivery only.
Always committed to training and development, all members of our team are trained to the high standards required of the Health Food Institute, the industry's recognised training provider. Staff training is an ongoing theme instore and one that is taken seriously. We are proud to be a responsible, local and independent business that aims to educate and help improve the health of customers.
